It is normal for adults to sleep with pillows under our head. You might then assume that the same thing follows with babies. Well, the truth of the matter is, babies can sleep soundly and normally even without pillows. In fact, they do not need pillows to have a very comfortable sleep. Also, it is more safe for them without the pillows in their crib.So even if you got the pillow from the set of crib beddings, until your baby reaches toddler stage, experts all recommend that you do not use the pillow. The reason is that it may increase the change of your baby suffocating from the pillow if his face accidentally end up on it.
So when is it safe to let your baby use pillow? Well, according to the recommendations of doctors, unless your baby is out on the crib and is sleeping on his toddler bed, you should not have your baby use a pillow. In other words, the baby should at least be two years old. And that is if you want. There is really no need for them, even for toddlers, to use pillows yet. Even without the pillow, they can sleep quite comfortably. Most often, baby pillows are just something that provides the toddler with security, like the teddy bear.
Some pediatric sleep experts say that pillows are not really needed by infants, toddlers and even small children. The parents might think that the baby pillow will provide the kids with additional comfort when they sleep but in reality, the baby is fine without the pillow. Nevertheless, for parents who really want to introduce their baby to pillow, these experts recommend staying away from the soft feather pillows. This is because these feather pillows are too soft and it may only smother the child if his head shrinks into it. Aside from that, they may also set off allergies.
And for those parents who really want to introduce pillows even when their baby is still in the crib, the experts recommend to use only pillows that are the size of airline pillows. Again the baby pillow must be firm and not the soft types. One thing that you should also keep in mind is that you must introduce the use of pillow on naptimes first. This way you can monitor your child’s movement and how he sleeps with it. If you finally think that he would be safe with it, then you may now use the baby pillow regularly. Then you may now use the pillow regularly if you finally think he will be safe with it.

Children over the age of two enjoy cuddling up with their baby sleep pillow. A baby sleep pillow can offer a child comfort when they are trying to go to sleep.
The use of a baby sleep pillow for babies under the age of two is not recommended by doctors. Babies often roll over face down onto a pillow and may not be able to roll off the pillow. If a baby rolls over onto the pillow face down, the baby could possibly die from suffocation.

Baby pillows were basically introduced to avoid the development of distorted head shapes in babies. The demand of baby pillows increased in the market when different medical authorities said that keeping baby at its back reduces the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. Baby pillows got very famous after the announcement of their benefits by the medical authorities but flattened head cases were also increased. Those parents who are wise already knew the benefits of baby pillows. Since then these pillows are also used in children hospitals.

Most of what I read says you can introduce those things around age 2 or when the child moves to a big bed.
Since my son was not yet 2, I decided to follow the advice and start with one of those baby pillows. It was the size of an airline pillow and did not look very useful to me. It got lost in the full size bed and my son did not seem to know it was really a pillow to put his head on. My son did not seem to need pillows or bedding; it was just my need to make it look like a normal bed that kept bugging me.

Personalizing a baby pillow is one of the easiest tasks on hand. Throw in your style, your creativity, throw in a few baby designs, make it all look comfortable and make it suited for the baby you are giving it too. Simple colour coordinations like pink baby pillow for the girl baby and blue baby pillow for the boy baby is universal. However, if you are one of the gifted artsy kinds, give free reign to your colour palette and make the baby pillow as bright as bright can be.
As the baby pillow is meant as a gift for the baby, one can indulge in numerous liberties.

Are you are one of those parents wondering whether your child is ready for a pillow? While the need for a pillow is felt by most of us adults, this is not always the case with kids. Perhaps you feel your child will do well with a baby sleep pillow; well then this article is just for you. This however will depend on how grown up your kid is and where he is likely to nap. Baby sleep pillows are generally not recommended for kids under two. The use of pillows before this carries the risk of smothering.

Remember, give pillows only to children aged two and up. Infants can suffocate if they sleep with pillows, so doctors advise parents not to give small babies pillows. You may also find that older children do not need pillows, either, since their proportions are different from adults’. When in doubt, let your child try sleeping with a pillow, and if they do not like it, take it away and save it for later.
With this advice, you should be able to find or make the perfect baby sleep pillow in no time.

The reason for that is that the baby could suffocate. Some baby sleep pillows have been recalled due to safety concerns.

Baby Pillows are used to assist newborn and toddlers get a comfortable sleep. Recent advancement in technology has seen manufacturers provide ample safety measures to prevent SIDS, a sudden and unexplained demise of a child between one month and one year old. The new pillows not only provide a greater safety measure but also help a child develop a proper round skulls formation.

In many cases, a baby pillow for nursing has helped children fall asleep.
If you are interested in having a baby pillow in the crib of your child as well as around his or her neck while nursing, keep reading. In selecting the right pillow for your baby, there are some guidelines to keep in mind. A baby pillow that is small in size is the first guideline. If you select a normal sized pillow, it will be too large and could suffocate the child.

A small and lightweight pillow is best for a young child. This is so that it can not suffocate the child or make him or her too hot. Another guideline is that the pillow should be free of decoration such as fringe or beads. This is to ensure that the child does not swallow and suffocate on anything on the pillow by mistake. When going for a baby pillow, choose baby friendly fabrics lie silk or light cotton.

Although it is a known fact that infants and the baby pillows should be kept as far away from each other as possible, owing to the reasoning’s of experts that they are potentially hazardous to the infant’s health. This verdict is supported by evidence that shows that toddlers do not require pillows owing to its potential risks on their health; say for instance a soft feathery pillow can trigger certain allergic reactions. Other than these facts doctors at present are propagating the pros of the baby pillows, such as the relief that is experienced owning to its utilization in the elevation of the head, when the infant is suffering from a flu and hence a clogged nose.
But the need for baby pillows is often ignored and not appropriately described. Let’s take a look at the other side of the story.

How do you know when you have chosen the right pillow for your baby?
First, is your child old enough to use a baby pillow? Children under two years old should never have pillows in the crib with them. Because infants’ neck muscles are weak, they run the risk of suffocating on the pillow if they roll onto their belly. Some parents find that elevating their baby’s head when their baby has a stuffed nose or an ear infection helps the baby to sleep, but this is dangerous. If your child is under two but needs her head elevated, consider putting a pillow under the mattress instead, so that the mattress itself is elevated. The firm surface of the mattress will reduce the risk of suffocation and keep your child safe.

While shopping for the pillows, expert advice to use a baby pillow that provides a high quality cushion made of visco elastic material. Furthermore, it is necessary that the clothing material is easily washable and is anti allergic. The age of the baby should determine the type of pillow. There is no pillow that is fit for all. Following this, various studies and surveys were conducted to evaluate the relevance of this change on the occurrence of SIDS. While the incidence of SIDS related deaths had decreased by half, other findings were also identified by the studies. In 2005, an AAP task force released a new statement, which included several recommendations. Primarily, the non prone position was changed to a recommendation of a back only position. Included in the recommendations was a clearly defined list of items to place in the crib: a firm mattress, a fitted sheet, and the baby.

Keeping the baby’s head slightly elevated helps them breathe more easily and hence a pillow is a must. The head elevation also prevents vomiting of the bedtime feed. The support given to the soft skull bones of a baby by a pillow helps prevent deformities. Baby head pillows come in different sizes and qualities. Memory foam pillows are exceptionally good as they have the ability to mold according to the toddler’s skull shape.

The widely held notion is that baby pillows are best avoided until two years of age. Several studies even suggest that using baby pillows for infants may be more damaging than beneficial. However, as with adults, the need to use a pillow is a personal choice, and even for a baby this must be ascertained based on his or her individual needs. Thus, when your baby shows signs that he is ready to use a baby pillow you may want to opt for a well designed pillow made of baby suitable material.
One point to consider is that adult pillows are a strict no no with kids, and it is imperative that one chooses pillows specifically designed for babies.

Apart from that they baby pillows can also be used as tummy tuckers whilst the baby is on the floor or even as a nursing pillow when you are feeding them. Several also ensure that the toddler has not only a safe but also a comfortable journey when traveling on road by car. If the baby pillow is available in brilliant colors, that is all the more better as then it will surely catch the toddlers eye.
Having taken a look at all these advantages it is not so strange that the babies may develop considerable attachment to their baby pillows. A symbol of this attachment is evident from the fact that many parents tend to personalize your baby pillow that you used as a baby and give it to you when you are much older.

The second guideline is to pick something without any decorations such as beading or fringe. This is so that the baby does not choke on small pieces that he or should could pull off the baby pillow. Third, it is best to find a pillow that is made of a natural material, like cotton or silk. Last, be sure that you purchase a pillow without feather stuffing, which would lead to an allergic reaction. So, the best pillow is small, made with natural materials, and has no sewn on embellishments.

A toddler does not really need to use a baby pillow at all. It may even be counterproductive for children who lie on their backs while sleeping. Using a baby pillow too early can lead to stiff and sore muscles, because it causes the spine to curve.
The best plan is to give your toddler a baby pillow when one is requested, assuming he or she is over eighteen months of age and not sleeping in a crib. At this point, be sure to get a baby pillow that is created for little bodies.

Remember that babies have tender heads that needs good protection. Do not bother with feather pillows, as they are too soft to serve the purpose, and may trigger unnecessary reactions and even allergies. Feather pillows are also known to carry the risk of suffocation. In some cases, babies are known to develop a flat head because of the continued sleeping on their backs. Fear not; memory foam pillows are made specifically to prevent this.
